Curve0 - Curved Stainless Steel Keyboard
variant:
quantity:
$8 - $95

About Curve0:

A flat typing surface is not very comfortable. Most keyboards solve this problem by using profiled keycaps that form the general shape of a curve. However, achieving a curved typing surface by angling the keycap faces has flaws:

  • The direction your finger pushes is not exactly in line with the direction the key moves. This means:

    • Some of your force does not contribute to pushing the key, requiring you to push harder.

    • Some of your force gets turned into friction, making the switch feel scratchier and requiring you to push even harder.

  • The angled keycaps need to be taller, resulting in more horizontal leverage and amplifying the above negative effects.

In Curve0, the switches themselves are at an angle to achieve the desired typing surface without any compromises.

Not convinced? The Geekhack post has more info about the keyboard and a more detailed explanation (with diagrams) of the design.

What you will receive:

This is NOT a complete keyboard. You will need your own MX switches, PCB-mount stabilizers, uniprofile keycaps and USB-C cable and to assemble the keyboard before you can start typing. Specifically, you will receive:

  • Stainless steel case and assembly hardware

  • PCB, daughterboard, and their connecting cable

  • 4 small and 4 large adhesive rubber feet (for adjusting the angle to your liking)

As this is a bare metal keyboard, you may find visible surface imperfections from the production process.

Assembly:

Assembly involves installing switches to the main PCB and flashing the QMK/Via firmware (provided in the build guide). Please ensure you are comfortable with this before buying. Build guides: Curve0 60% and Curve0 v2 75%.

On the two versions:

Curve0 v1 is only available in 60% with a soldered PCB. Curve0 v2 has some minor changes, is 75%, and can be purchased with either a soldered or hotswap PCB.

On the two PCB options:

Curve0 v2 75% can be purchased with either a soldered or hotswap PCB. You can read about hotswap here if you are not familiar. For this keyboard, the hotswap PCB does not support split keys or stepped Caps Lock (with the soldered PCB, you can split Backspace and/or Left Shift and use a stepped Caps Lock keycap).
